Cluj is a county (judeţ) in the center of Transylvania, in Romania,
with the capital city at Cluj-Napoca (population: 333, 607)

Demographics
In 2002, it had a population of 702, 755 and the population density
was 105/km˛.
According to the latest national census (2002), the major ethnic
groups in the county are: Romanians (79. 4%), Hungarians (17. 4%) and
Rromas (Gypsies) (2. 8%).
Geography
This county has a total area of 6, 674 km˛. About 1/3 of this surface
are mountains in the South-West of the county - the Apuseni Mountains with
heights up to 1800 m. The rest of the surface is the North side of the
Transylvanian Plateau a hilly region, with deep but wide valleys.
The main rivers in the county are Someşul Mic, Arieş and Crişul Repede.
Economy
Cluj County has one of the most dynamical economies in Romania, being
one of the region with the highest ratings of foreign investments.
Cluj-Napoca is one of the most important centers in IT and financial
services from Romania.
The predominant industries in the county are:
The manufacturing of mechanical components, wood products and
processing, glass manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food
production and processing, and some textiles. There are also some
mining regions with coal and iron deposits, and natural gas is also being
extracted.
A Commune is a larger village which usually acts as a regional centre, with a
mayor, postal and police services, and sometimes larger stores. Other
villages may belong to the commune, and the over 2500 communes in Romania vary
widely in size.
